Grab your bowl and ingredients and let me show you how to bake a cake in your air fryer!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CAN YOU BAKE CAKE IN AN AIR FRYER?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Ok, truth time. I was a little dubious about baking cake in my air fryer but I am absolutely THRILLED with the results!<\/p>\n<p>So much so that baked a lemon cake and a vanilla cake on the same day and both came out soft and light with just the perfect crumb. I think you too will be wowed with how versatile your air fryer is. It can take you from\u00a0breakfast pancakes, to\u00a0roast dinner\u00a0to\u00a0dessert\u2026 and more<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AIR FRYER CAKE FROM SCRATCH<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You can use a boxed cake mix but I am a firm believer that homemade is always best. And trust me when I say this air fryer cake recipe is just as easy and quick to prepare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what you will need<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Self-raising flour<\/strong>\u00a0(also known as self-rising) or plain flour plus baking powder<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sugar<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 ideally caster sugar (a.k.a superfine sugar)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Softened unsalted butter<\/strong>\u00a0or margarine (such as Stork)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medium eggs<\/strong>\u00a0in the UK (please note you need to use large eggs in the US)<\/li>\n<li>Semi skimmed milk<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vanilla extract, vanilla bean paste or\u00a0vanilla powder<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will need a cake pan that fits comfortably inside your air fryer. I have the\u00a0Cosori 5.8Qt\u00a0and an\u00a0Instant Vortex, both of which can fit an 8 inch cake pan. If you own a smaller air fryer you may need to use a 6 or 7 inch cake pan \u2013\u00a0HOWEVER if you do the timing will have to be tweaked.<\/p>\n<p>This recipe makes a proper sized cake that easily serves 12. It can be sliced in half and filled with your choice of buttercream or frosting. But it is so moist and delicious that it tastes amazing simply dusted with a little icing sugar.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CAKE<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>STEP 1:\u00a0<\/strong>Preheat the Air Fryer at 160\u00b0C (320\u00b0F) while you prepare the batter. Mist an\u00a08 inch deep cake pan\u00a0with\u00a0cake release\u00a0and line the bottom with parchment paper. (Please check the recipe card notes if using a smaller cake pan).<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 2:\u00a0<\/strong>Use\u00a0<strong>digital scales<\/strong>\u00a0to measure the flour and sugar into a mixing bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Stir to combine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 3:\u00a0<\/strong>Add the butter, eggs, milk and vanilla. Beat together using an electric hand mixer or your stand mixer, using a spatula to scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl as needed. Mix until the batter is smooth, about a minute.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 4:\u00a0<\/strong>Place the prepareed cake pan into the air fryer basket. Pour the cake batter into the pan and level. Bake for 30 minutes at 160\u00b0C (320\u00b0F).\u00a0<strong>Lower the temperature to 150\u00b0C (300\u00b0F)<\/strong>\u00a0and continue to cook for a further 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5:<\/strong>\u00a0Check whether the cake is baked through \u2013 insert a skewer or toothpick in the middle of the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. Cool for 5 minutes in the pan then invert onto a cooling wire rack. Slice the cake in half using a\u00a0cake\u00a0if you wish to add buttercream frosting to make a layer cake.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5234\" src=\"https:\/\/airfryer-tips.us\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TGEE-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/airfryer-tips.us\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TGEE-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/airfryer-tips.us\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TGEE-768x571.jpg 768w, https:\/\/airfryer-tips.us\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/TGEE.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHAT TEMPERATURE IS BEST FOR BAKING A CAKE IN AIR FRYER<\/strong>?<\/h2>\n<p>My air fryer comes with a bake setting which is set to 150\u00b0C (300\u00b0F) for 30 minutes. I think that would be sufficient for a smaller cake but for this recipe\u00a0<strong>you will need to cook for longer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cBake Setting\u201d is simply a temperature indicator. I usually use the air fryer setting and simply adjust the temperature and cooking time manually.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PLEASE NOTE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Air fryer baking times and even temperatures can\u00a0<strong>vary with each brand<\/strong>. It is best to bake on a lower heat setting to allow the cake to rise evenly and avoid burning on top.<\/p>\n<p>Check the cake is baked by visually checking (is the cake springy to the touch, does it pass the toothpick test?). If the cake is still a bit raw in the middle then continue to cook, adding a few minutes until it is done.<\/p>\n<p>Another way to check is to use an\u00a0instant read thermometer.\u00a0Insert the probe in the middle of the cake (not touching the bottom of the pan) and check it measures around 209\u00b0F (98\u00b0C).<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-tips-for-perfect-air-fryer-cake\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>TIPS FOR PERFECT AIR FRYER CAKE<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Use\u00a0<strong>room temperature<\/strong>\u00a0ingredients. You can soften butter by blasting in the microwave on the DEFROST setting for a few seconds. If your eggs are cold, submerge them in warm water for a few minutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t overfill the cake pan<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 about half full is right. The\u00a0cake pan I used\u00a0is 8 inches wide and 3 inches deep. If you use a smaller cake pan then the baking times indicated below may not work.<\/li>\n<li>You might need to level the cake if you want to layer it.<\/li>\n<li>I have provided a buttercream recipe in the card below if you wanted to fill your cake as I have done, Victoria Sponge style.<\/li>\n<li>Store in an airtight container for up to five days, without the frosting. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. If the skewer comes out wet or with moist crumbs continue to cook for a further 5 minutes.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-6\" id=\"wprm-recipe-32377-step-0-5\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Take the cake out of the air fryer using oven mitts. If your eggs are cold then submerge them in warm water for a few minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t overfill the cake pan \u2013 about half full is right. The cake pan I used is 8 inches wide and 3 inches deep. If your airfryer is small you might need to split the batter between two 6 or 7 inch pans and bake for 25 minutes at 150\u00b0C (300\u00b0F).
