Easy Air Fryer Boiled Eggs

Unless you count the air fryer and a bowl of ice water. Those actually aren’t ingredients, though. They’re just the tools you need to cook the eggs.

How to Make Air Fryer Boiled Eggs

Yes, I realize these are not technically “boiled” eggs. But they look like boiled eggs, feel like boiled eggs, and taste like boiled eggs.

So that’s what I’m calling them.

Since this is such an easy and consistent recipe, you won’t want to veer from the directions.

However, you do need to decide whether you want soft, medium, or hard boiled eggs.

The timing will be different for each. I prefer soft boiled eggs most of the time. However, when I have company, I cook them just a tad longer.

This recipe is so easy you’ll wonder why you haven’t done it before. First, place the eggs in your air fryer basket.

I’m using a 6-quart Instant Vortex air fryer that you can get from Amazon. I’ll put a link to it in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Secondly, decide how you want your eggs cooked. Here’s the chart I use:

  • Soft boiled eggs – 15 minutes
  • Medium boiled eggs – 16 minutes
  • Hard Boiled eggs – 17 minutes

Set the timer on your air fryer accordingly. Since I wanted soft boiled eggs, I went with 15 minutes.

Next, you’ll need to set the temperature at 250 degrees F.

Turn on the air fryer and allow it to complete the cycle. You don’t have to worry about turning or flipping the eggs.

After the cycle is completed, carefully lift the eggs out of the air fryer basket and place them in a bowl of ice water.

I used tongs to prevent burning my fingers.

Leave the eggs in the ice water for at least 5 minutes. When you remove them, dry them off on a dish cloth or paper towel.

How to Peel Air Fryer Boiled Eggs

You’ll be blown away by how easy it is to peel these eggs.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been frustrated when the shell either stuck to the egg or a chunk of egg came off with the shell.

If you follow these directions, you’ll be able to peel the shell right off the egg without any problem.

First, tap the narrow end of the egg on a hard surface until it cracks. Next, crack the side and gently roll it over the hard surface to crack the egg all the way around.

Starting with the end you cracked in the beginning, peel the shell off of the egg.

The key is to get the thin membrane to peel with the egg, leaving the white part intact. Cracking the end helps you do this.

After I finish peeling the eggs, I rinse them under cool water to make sure there isn’t any of the shell left on it.

Now you can prepare your eggs for whatever you’re serving.

Whether you’re making deviled eggs, putting them in a salad, or simply eating them, you’ll probably never go back to the old way of boiling eggs.

Important Considerations

Since air fryers can vary, you might want to test one or two eggs before you cook a whole batch.

I don’t recommend cooking more than 6 eggs at a time. You don’t want to crowd the air fryer, or you might wind up with inconsistent results.

Some air fryers have a preheat cycle. If yours does, you can add the eggs right after the machine reaches the correct temperature.

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 medium bowl of ice water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 250 degrees F.
  2. Set the timer for 15 minutes for soft boiled, 16 minutes for medium boiled, and 17 minutes for hard boiled.
  3. Place the eggs in the basket, making sure they don’t touch.
  4. Push the basket into the air fryer and cook until the time is up.
  5. Remove the basket and carefully place the eggs in a bowl of ice water.
  6. Leave them in the ice water for 5 minutes before peeling.
  7. Tap the shell on a hard surface to crack it. The shell should come right off without any trouble.
