Air Fryer ribeye steak comes out juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked! Learn how to make the perfect steak the quick and easy way in less than 15 minutes.

Cooking steak in the Air Fryer is so easy and gets you perfectly tender and juicy results in just 10 minutes every time! Top it with a dollop of homemade garlic butter for a restaurant-worthy steak dinner. Rib eyes are a great choice for air frying because they are ultra-flavorful and come out very juicy even if they are cooked at a high temperature.

Reasons you’ll love this recipe

  • Juicy and tender steaks with a perfect sear on the outside
  • Less mess than cooking on the stove and perfect for times when you don’t have access to a BBQ
  • Hands-off way to make steak
  • A perfect way to make ribeye steaks, but the recipe works for any cut of steak

Ingredient notes

Here is an overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom for quantities.

  • Steak – My favorite cuts of steak for this recipe are ribeye steaks, but sirloin steaks, New York strip, and filet Mignon work well too.
  • Oil Spray – I like to use an oil spray to evenly coat the meat, but you can also brush or rub it with oil. If you use an oil spray, make sure it’s pure and don’t use cooking spray, the additives in the spray can damage your air fryer basket.
  • Butter – Unsalted butter works best, but you can also use salted butter. The butter should be soft so you can easily combine it with the herbs and garlic.
  • Herbs – You can use whichever herbs you have on hand, for example, parsley or rosemary.
  • Garlic – Fresh garlic tastes best in homemade garlic butter!

How to make this recipe

Detailed measurements and instructions can be found at the bottom of the page on the printable recipe card.

  1. Prep: Take the steaks out of the fridge 30 minutes before.
  2. Preheat: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  3. Season: Season the steaks with salt and pepper, then spray or brush with oil
  4. Air Fry: Put steaks in the preheated air fryer and cook for 10-12 min, turning halfway through.
  5. Finish and serve: Let the steaks rest for 10 minutes before cutting them.

Expert tips for success

  • Room Temperature: Letting the steak sit at room temperature before cooking makes sure that it cooks evenly
  • Seasoning: You can use your favorite steak seasoning or keep it simple and use salt and pepper
  • Preheating: Preheating the Air Fryer before adding the steak makes sure that the steak doesn’t stick to the basket and gives it the perfect sear
  • Overcrowding: Don’t overcrowd the basket! The air needs to circulate for the best result
  • Degree of doneness: I recommend using a meat thermometer to check if the steaks have reached your desired internal temperature, check out the cooking chart in this post. Stop the air fryer when the thermometer is 5 degrees F lower than the desired doneness, the temperature will continue to rise while resting
  • Rest: Let the steak rest before you cut into it! Remove them from the basket and cover them loosely with aluminum foil
  • Cutting: Cutting the steak against the grain makes it more tender.
  • Thickness: I used 1-inch thick steaks for this recipe. If your steaks are thinner, reduce the cooking time, if they are thicker, you might have to add 1 minute
  • Cooking time: Depending on your Air Fryer, cooking times may vary. Always keep an eye on the food!

Steak Doneness and Temperature

Check out this handy Air Fryer Steak cooking chart to make the perfect medium-rare steak in the Air Fryer:

  • Rare: 125 degrees F (52 degrees C)
  • Medium-rare: 135 degrees F (57 degrees C)
  • Medium: 145 degrees F (63 degrees C)
  • Medium-well: 150 degrees F (66 degrees C)
  • Well-done: 160 degrees F (71 degrees F)

Recipe FAQs

How long to cook steak in the Air Fryer?

A 10 ounce 1-inch thick ribeye steak takes about 10 minutes at 400 degrees F to get to medium-rare in the Air Fryer. The exact cook time depends on the thickness and size of the steak and the power of your Air Fryer. I recommend checking the internal temperature with a thermometer to make sure it is cooked to your desired doneness.

Can you make frozen steak in the Air Fryer?

I don’t recommend making frozen steak in the Air Fryer. The steak won’t cook evenly, and it will be very difficult to get a perfectly cooked steak. The best way to defrost steak is overnight in the fridge, but if you are in a hurry you can also put the steak in an airtight bag and defrost it in a bowl of cold water.

What’s the best cut of steak to cook in the air fryer?

This recipe works for different cuts of meat – ribeye, sirloin steak, or filet Mignon for example! My favorite cut of steak is a thick ribeye, it’s the perfect cut to make in your air fryer and comes out very juicy and cooked to perfection.
