Air Fryer Onion Bhaji

Air fryer onion bhajis are a delicious and healthier alternative to deep-fried bhajis. The air fryer allows you to achieve a crispy texture with less oil. Here’s a simple recipe to make air fryer onion bhajis:

Ingredients:

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Cooking spray or oil for greasing the air fryer basket

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour (if using), cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add thinly sliced onions to the flour mixture and toss until the onions are coated evenly. Gradually add water, a little at a time, and mix until you have a thick batter. The batter should be thick enough to hold its shape when dropped.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for a few minutes.
  4. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Take spoonfuls of the onion batter and drop them into the air fryer basket. Flatten them slightly with the back of the spoon.
  6. Air fry the onion bhajis for about 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time, until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  7. Once cooked, remove the bhajis from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
  8. Serve the air fryer onion bhajis hot with your favorite chutney or dipping sauce.
