The Ingredients:
-
Red or yellow onions, assorted bell peppers, and chicken strips.
-
Vegetable oil –Use whichever type of oil you have on hand; for this recipe, I used canola, but you may also use vegetable, avocado, or sunflower oil.
-
Fajita seasoning –Please check out my recipe since I always make my own homemade seasoning blend. It’s healthier and less expensive than the store-bought mix, plus it tastes so much better.
How Do You Prepare Air-Fried Chicken Fajitas?
-
-
Set the Air Fryer to 200°C/390°F.
-
Prepare the veggies (be careful not to slice them too thin or they will burn), then cut the chicken into strips (see illustration below).
-
Next, add oil and fajita seasoning to everything. Apply a good amount of fajita seasoning, making sure to coat everything thoroughly.
-
-
Put in the basket of the Air Fryer.
Shake the basket halfway during the 15 minutes of air fry time at 390°F (200°C). You may need to air fried the chicken for a few more minutes because the cooking time varies depending on the thickness of the strips and the brand of air fryer you use (see below for more information on monitoring the doneness of the chicken).
Take care not to fill your Air Fryer basket too full. The food will “steam” instead of “bake” and burn if you put layers upon layers of chicken and vegetables in the basket.
How To Know If Chicken Is Cooked:
Using a fork and knife, carefully cut into a tiny piece of chicken to check if the meat is cooked through all the way through.
However, a kitchen thermometer is the most reliable tool for confirming whether your chicken is now safe to consume. The internal temperature of the chicken should read 165°F (75°C) when the thermometer is simply inserted into the center of the chicken piece. Simply place it back in the oven and cook for a further two to three minutes, then check to see whether it has achieved that temperature.
Homemade Fajita Seasoning:
I make my own homemade fajita seasoning, which is considerably cheaper and healthier than anything you can buy in stores. I mean, there are so many strange chemical compounds on the back of the fajita seasoning pack that you won’t even be able to pronounce. So why not use the spices you already have on hand to make your own fajita seasoning at home?
See how to make your own by following my recipe for homemade fajita seasoning.
I use this spice blend not just for tacos and other chicken recipes, but also for fajitas. I keep the seasoning in a jar and use it as needed; it also helps me save money and time, particularly on hectic weeknights when I just need to put together a quick, easy dinner.
How Are Air-Fried Chicken Fajitas Served?:
They can be eaten with or without bread, such as in chicken fajita bowls, which are ideal for low-carb or ketogenic diets.
Add fresh cilantro, lime wedges, pineapple salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, and so on to the top.
You can also use corn or wheat tortillas to wrap in tortilla bread.
Use tortilla bread that is gluten-free if you are trying to avoid gluten.
