Crunchy Air Fryer A nutritious, high-fiber snack or topping for salads are chickpeas! Very simple and quick to prepare in the air fryer.
Crispy Air Fryer Chickpeas:
I’m not surprised that air fryer recipes are still the most popular request, therefore I’ll be posting at least one new dish every week! These Crispy Air Fryer Chickpeas are a staple in my kitchen; the air-frying process turns them crunchy and nutty. They are the ideal snack or give salads or bowls a pleasant crunch. You can use any mix of spices you choose; the options are virtually limitless.
The Reason I Enjoy Cooking Crispy Air-Fried Chickpeas:
- Nutrition: Garbanzo beans, sometimes referred to as chickpeas, are a rich source of nutrients. They will keep you fuller for longer because they are a great source of protein and fiber. They also include an abundance of vitamins and minerals, including folate and zinc.
- Vegetarian: Chickpeas are one of my favorite plant-based protein sources when I wish to avoid eating meat.
- Price: At about a dollar a can, chickpeas are a very affordable snack. Although you may purchase packaged crunchy chickpeas, preparing them at home is far less expensive.
Ideas for Air-Fryer Chickpea Seasoning:
You may add any kind of spice to these crunchy chickpeas. They’re an empty canvas, so have fun with it! Here are some suggestions:
- Cajun seasoning
- Garlic salt
- Blackened seasoning
- Montreal steak seasoning
- Za’atar
- Tajin
- Curry powder
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Ranch seasoning (garlic and onion powders, salt, pepper, and dried parsley and dill)
How to Use an Air Fryer to Roast Chickpeas:
- It’s crucial to begin with dry chickpeas because otherwise, they won’t get crisp and, if they do, they won’t stay crisp. Firstly, wash and drain the chickpeas, then pat dry on paper towels. I normally let them air dry for an hour while I work on other tasks.
- Air Fry: Shake the basket every five minutes until the chickpeas are cooked for 12 to 14 minutes at 380 degrees. They are ready when they turn golden brown and become crispy.
- After: Transfer the chickpeas into a bowl, toss with a little olive oil, and then sprinkle with spices while still warm. If you season them before airfrying, the spices may burn.
Tips for Crispy Chickpeas:
Here are some tips to make sure your chickpeas get crispy:
- Begin with dry chickpeas: For optimal results, let the canned chickpeas air dry on paper towels before cooking. Wet or damp chickpeas will not crisp up, and if they do, they will not hold their crispness over the course of the next day. Arrange the chickpeas onto a sheet of dry paper towels. Place another towel on top of them, then move the towel across the chickpeas.
- Air Dry: If I have the time, I usually let them set on my counter for at least an hour.
- Recrisp: To make leftover chickpeas crisp again, place them back in the air fryer for two to three minutes if they get too mushy.

Notes
Dry chickpeas are the best option for crunchy chickpeas since they will not get crisp or, if they do, they will not stay crisp. Before cooking, thoroughly dry them on paper towels and, if possible, put them outside for an hour or two to dry.
Chickpeas can be kept for up to a week at room temperature in a jar. Remaining chickpeas can be crisped up by popping them back into the air fryer for two to three minutes if they go mushy.
