Air Fryer Crab Cakes are a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried crab cakes. They are easy to make and require minimal oil, making them a guilt-free treat. Here’s a recipe and some notes to help you make the perfect air fryer crab cakes:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound lump crab meat
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- Cooking spray
Notes:
- Start by picking through the lump crab meat to remove any shells or cartilage. Be gentle to avoid breaking up the crab meat too much.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the crab meat, mayonnaise, breadcrumbs, bell pepper, green onion, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Add the beaten egg to the mixture and stir until it is well combined. The egg will act as a binder, holding the crab cakes together.
- Shape the mixture into patties, about 3 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick. You should be able to make around 6-8 crab cakes, depending on the size.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent the crab cakes from sticking. Place the crab cakes in a single layer in the basket, leaving some space between them for air circulation.
- Cook the crab cakes in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. They should be golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the crab cakes from the air fryer using tongs or a spatula.
- Serve the air fryer crab cakes with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or remoulade. They also go well with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
Enjoy your homemade air fryer crab cakes! They make a delightful appetizer or main course for seafood lovers.
