Are you craving some authentic German comfort food? Look no further than this delicious reibekuchen – classic German potato pancakes! Crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside, and so incredibly easy to make at home. One bite of these hearty air fried potato pancakes and you’ll be transported to a charming Christmas market stall.

About Time

  • Prep Time  10 mins
  • Cook Time 20 mins
  • Total Time 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 lb russet potatoes
  • 1 small yellow onion
  • Pinch of salt plus more for seasoning
  • Pinch of black pepper for savory pancakes
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Wash and peel the potatoes. Grate them into a bowl using the large grating side of a box grater. Grate the onion into the same bowl.
If there is excess liquid pooling in the potato mixture, drain off as much as possible.
Add the salt, pepper (if making savory pancakes), flour and egg to the potato-onion mixture. Use your hands to thoroughly mix everything together into a thick batter.
Heat 1-2 tbsp vegetable oil over medium heat in a large skillet. For each pancake, scoop about 2 tbsp of the potato batter into the hot oil, flattening slightly with the back of a spoon or spatula.
Air fryer the pancakes for 3-4 minutes per side at 300F/160C until deeply golden brown and crispy on both sides. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
Once all the pancakes are cooked, reheat them one more time for 30-60 seconds per side for extra crunch.
Serve the potato pancakes immediately while hot and crispy. Top with applesauce, brown sugar, sour cream, yogurt sauce or any other desired toppings.

Prepare the Naan Bread: Place the naan bread on a flat surface. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the naan bread, leaving a small border around the edges. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the sauce. Add Meat Toppings: Arrange the pepperoni, salami, crumbled sausage, and bacon pieces evenly on top of the cheese. If using ground beef, sprinkle it over the top as well. Season: Sprinkle the Italian seasoning and crushed red pepper flakes over the top. Cook in the Air-Fryer: Carefully place the assembled naan pizza in the preheated air-fryer basket. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges of the naan are crispy. Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the air-fryer. If desired, garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Slice and serve immediately. Notes Naan Bread: Choose a naan bread that fits well in your air-fryer basket. You may need to cut it to size if it’s too large. Sauce Options: Use any pizza or marinara sauce you prefer. For a different flavor, you can also use BBQ sauce or Alfredo sauce. Cheese: Feel free to mix and match different types of cheese according to your preference. Provolone, gouda, or parmesan can add extra flavor. Meat Toppings: Customize the meat toppings based on what you have available. Other great additions include ham, Canadian bacon, or chorizo. Vegetarian Option: For a vegetarian version, replace the meat with veggies like bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and olives. Crispiness: If you prefer a crispier crust, pre-bake the naan bread in the air-fryer for 2-3 minutes before adding the toppings. Storage and Reheating: Leftover pizza can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air-fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes. Enjoy your delicious and easy-to-make air-fryer meat lovers naan bread pizza!
