Air fryer onion potatoes made with Lipton onion soup mix recipe is one of the most buttery and flavorful dishes you’ll ever try! By cooking them in the air fryer, potatoes become golden and crisp on the outside and wonderfully tender on the inside, bursting with rich onion flavor.
What Potatoes are Best for Air Frying?
When it comes to air frying potatoes, you want something that will hold up against the heated air.
Russet potatoes are the best choice for air frying because of their high starch content; this makes them crispier when cooked. Yukon gold potatoes are also a great option because of their waxy texture — these will hold their shape longer during the cooking process.
For a heartier potato, try red or sweet potatoes — the natural flavors of these varieties infuse nicely with Lipton Onion seasoning and make delicious side dishes.
Ingredients
3 Potatoes
1 medium Onion
1 tablespoon Olive oil
1 packet Lipton Onion Soup Mix
1 clove Garlic
½ teaspoon Salt and pepper
Instructions
Wash and scrub the potatoes. Leave the skin on.
Cut the potatoes into wedges, approximately 1-inch cubes
Rinse: I always give my potatoes a quick rinse with cold water until the water is clear. This helps to rid of the starch. Alternatively, you can soak the potatoes in cold water for 10 minutes
Pat them dry and transfer to a large bowl
Season: Add oil, salt & pepper to taste, sliced onion, minced garlic, and one packet of Lipton Onion soup mix.
Mix all the ingredients to combine. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Preheat: While the potatoes are absorbing all the flavors, preheat your air fryer to 390°F (198°C) on air-fry/air crisp setting.
Add to basket: Place the potatoes directly in the basket (or tray) of the air fryer and cook for 12-15 minutes depending on size.
Flip: Be sure to set the timer and flip (shake) them every 5 minutes.
Check: After 12 minutes, check for doneness and crispiness and determine whether you need to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. I cook potatoes in the air fryer a lot and 12 minutes is optimal timing at 390F.
Notes
You can peel the potato skins off, if you prefer.
