Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes

Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes

Natalie June 29, 2023

Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that combines the crispy texture of fried potatoes with the fluffy interior of mashed potatoes. Here’s a recipe and some notes to help you make them:

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds (680g) baby potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley or rosemary), garlic powder, paprika, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the baby potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
  3. Bring the water to a boil over high heat and cook the potatoes for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.
  4. Drain the potatoes and let them cool slightly.
  5. Take each potato and gently press down on it with the back of a fork or a potato masher to flatten it. The goal is to create a smashed potato with a rough, textured surface.
  6. Drizzle the olive oil over the smashed potatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss them gently to coat evenly.
  7. Place the smashed potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded.
  8. Cook the potatoes in the air fryer for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.
  9. Remove the potatoes from the air fryer and sprinkle them with any desired toppings, such as grated Parmesan cheese, herbs, garlic powder, or paprika.
  10. Serve the Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes immediately while they are still hot and crispy. They make a great side dish for any meal.

Notes:

  • You can use any variety of baby potatoes for this recipe, such as red, yellow, or white potatoes. Just make sure they are similar in size to ensure even cooking.
  • Adjust the cooking time in the air fryer based on the size and thickness of your smashed potatoes. Thinner potatoes may require less time, while thicker ones may need a bit more.
  • Feel free to experiment with different seasonings and toppings to suit your taste. The basic recipe calls for salt and pepper, but you can add herbs, spices, or cheese to enhance the flavor.
  • These smashed potatoes are best enjoyed fresh and hot from the air fryer, as they tend to lose their crispiness as they cool down. However, you can reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes if needed.
  • Serve the Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes as a side dish with your favorite main course, such as grilled chicken, steak, or roasted vegetables.

Enjoy your crispy and delicious Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes!
