Natalie February 16, 2024

These crispy golden brown smashed potatoes, prepared entirely in an air fryer, offer a delightful twist to the classic potato side dish. With a prep time of just five minutes and a cook time of 40 minutes, this recipe strikes the perfect balance between convenience and flavor. The magic lies in the simplicity of the ingredients—baby gold potatoes are washed, dried, and air-fried until fully cooked, eliminating the need for boiling. The subsequent smashing of the potatoes into thin coins adds a rustic charm, creating a perfect textural contrast of crispiness on the outside and tenderness within.

The seasoning blend of olive oil, dried rosemary, garlic powder, black pepper, and a touch of salt imparts a harmonious medley of flavors. The aromatic rosemary, the warmth of garlic, and the subtle heat from black pepper contribute to a well-rounded taste profile. As the seasoned smashed potatoes undergo a second round of air frying, they transform into irresistible, crispy golden brown perfection. The result is a visual feast and a symphony of textures that elevates the humble potato to a star on the dinner table.

The recipe’s nutritional information reflects a well-balanced side dish, with each serving providing a reasonable 149 calories. Notably, these smashed potatoes are not only delicious but also relatively light, making them a versatile accompaniment to a variety of main courses. Whether served alongside grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or as a standalone snack, these air-fried smashed potatoes are sure to become a favorite for those seeking a hassle-free yet delectable addition to their meals.

TOTAL TIME45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb Baby Gold Potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp (32g) Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Dried Rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • Kosher or Flake Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the potatoes before adding to an air fryer basket. Cook for 15-20 minutes at 400ºF or until the potatoes are fully cooked.

  3. Drizzle olive oil and seasoning over the potatoes and gently toss to evenly coat.
  4. Add the smashed potatoes back to the air fryer and cook an additional 15-20 minutes at 400ºF, shaking halfway through, until the potatoes are crispy golden brown.

Notes

I used a 6.5-quart Ninja Foodi for air frying. Different sizes of air fryers will cook faster or slower. Adjust cook times accordingly.
