Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes (easy, super crispy)

Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Here’s a simple recipe to help you make them:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (about 450 grams) baby potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley or rosemary), minced garlic

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Rinse the baby potatoes and place them in a large pot. Cover them with cold water and add a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes until they are fork-tender. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Drain the cooked potatoes and let them cool for a few minutes until they are easy to handle.
  5. Place the potatoes on a cutting board and, using the bottom of a glass or a potato masher, gently press down on each potato until it is flattened but still intact. Repeat with all the potatoes.
  6. Drizzle the olive oil over the flattened potatoes, ensuring that each potato is coated on both sides. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Carefully transfer the flattened potatoes to the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  8. Cook the potatoes in the air fryer for about 15-20 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning. The potatoes should turn golden brown and crispy.
  9. Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the air fryer and transfer to a serving dish. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh herbs, or minced garlic while they are still hot.
  10. Serve the air fryer smashed potatoes immediately as a tasty side dish or appetizer.
