Air Fryer Whole Chicken Recipe

Make the best air fryer whole chicken – extra crispy skin on the outside, juicy and well-seasoned on the inside. This air fryer chicken recipe is perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas or your Sunday table!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg Whole chicken with skin on
  • 30 grams butter softened
  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • 2 sprigs sage
  • 1 teaspoon chopped parsley
  • 1 Lemon organic
  • 1 head of garlic
  • 3 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 300 grams Potatoes sliced

Instructions

  1. Start by mixing together softened butter with chopped herbs and kosher salt.
  2. Take the chicken, and using a tablespoon, push the skin gently. Using your fingers, gently rub the butter below the chicken skin, and smear it both over and under.
  3. Slice off the top of the head of garlic. Put half a lemon and the whole head of garlic into the chicken cavity.
  4. Truss the chicken, place it breast downward on the Air Fryer basket. Using a brush, brush olive oil all over.
  5. Air fry at 370F for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, take out the basket.
  6. Flip the chicken over gently, with the help of a spatula or tongs. Then brush over more olive oil (or butter).
  7. If you want to cook potatoes together with the chicken, add the sliced potatoes in the gap between the air fryer wall and the chicken. Do not over crowd. Brush with a little olive oil.
  8. Continue to air fry for 20 minutes.
  9. Once the 20 minute air frying cycle is complete, turn up the air fryer to 400 F and air fry for an extra 5 minutes. This extra step will make the chicken skin turn golden brown.
  10. Air fryer whole chicken is ready to be served with roasted potatoes.
