Tortilla Crusted Chicken – Baked or Air Fried

Tortilla crusted chicken can be prepared using either baking or air frying methods, depending on your personal preference and the equipment you have available. Both methods can yield delicious and crispy results, but there are slight differences in texture and cooking time.

  1. Baked Tortilla Crusted Chicken:

    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Start by preparing the tortilla crust mixture. Crush tortilla chips or use a food processor to create coarse crumbs. You can also add some seasonings like chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, or paprika for extra flavor.
    • Dip each chicken breast into beaten eggs or a mixture of eggs and milk, ensuring they are evenly coated.
    • Next, press the chicken breasts into the tortilla chip crumbs, making sure to cover them completely.
    • Place the coated chicken breasts on a greased or lined baking sheet.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the crust is golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
  2. Air Fried Tortilla Crusted Chicken:

    • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Prepare the tortilla crust mixture by crushing tortilla chips or using a food processor to create coarse crumbs. You can also add seasonings to the mixture.
    • Dip each chicken breast into beaten eggs or a mixture of eggs and milk, ensuring they are evenly coated.
    • Press the chicken breasts into the tortilla chip crumbs, making sure they are thoroughly coated.
    • Place the coated chicken breasts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap.
    • Cook the chicken in the air fryer for approximately 12-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are cooked through and the crust is crispy.
    • Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Both methods should result in crispy tortilla crusted chicken, but air frying tends to produce a slightly crispier texture due to the circulating hot air. However, baking is also a great option if you don’t have an air fryer or prefer a slightly different texture. Enjoy your tortilla crusted chicken!
