A few popular questions that everyone asks about Air Fryer Lobster Tails
Top Questions About Air Fryer Lobster Tails:
Cooking & Preparation:
- Temperature and Time:
- Answer: Most recipes recommend 400°F (200°C) for 8-12 minutes per pound, depending on size and desired doneness. Check internal temperature (140°F for opaque flesh) for accuracy.
- Do I need to thaw the lobster tails?
- Answer: Yes, thaw the lobster tails completely in the refrigerator overnight before cooking. Avoid thawing at room temperature or using hot water to prevent bacterial growth.
- What is the best way to butterfly the lobster tails?
- Answer: Using sharp kitchen shears, cut through the top shell lengthwise, stopping about 1 inch from the tail end. Don’t cut all the way through, so the tail remains connected. Gently press open to flatten the flesh.
- Should I use oil?
- Answer: A light brush of olive oil helps with browning, but isn’t necessary.
Troubleshooting:
- My lobster is overcooked!
- Answer: Be mindful of cooking time, especially for smaller tails. Use a quick-read thermometer to ensure internal temperature doesn’t exceed 140°F.
- My lobster isn’t cooked through!
- Answer: Increase cooking time slightly but be careful not to overcook. Check the internal temperature regularly.
- My lobster is dry!
- Answer: Ensure proper thawing and consider adding a touch of moisture (like butter or broth) while cooking to prevent dryness.
Additional Tips:
- Leftovers: Store leftover lobster in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the air fryer or oven for a few minutes.
- Flavor Variations: Experiment with different glazes and seasonings like garlic butter, lemon-herb, or your favorite spice rubs to customize the taste.
- Serving Suggestions: Pair your lobster tails with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a light salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
- Practice Makes Perfect: As with any recipe, practice makes perfect. Don’t be discouraged if your first attempt isn’t exactly like the picture.

Ready to get cooking? Let’s do this!
- Butterfly The Lobster Tails. Start by cutting the top hard shell of the lobster tail lengthwise through the center with kitchen shears. Do not cut all the way through the bottom of the shell. Spread the shells apart. Using your fingers, gently pull the meat from the inside of the shell and place it on top. Be sure to remove any veins and visible dirt.
- Prepare The Garlic Butter Mixture. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter, then add the garlic, seasonings, lemon juice, and fresh parsley. Pour half of the mixture into a small dish and set aside for later.
- Cook The Lobster. Season the lobster with salt and pepper to taste. (You can also season with a bit of smoked paprika and oregano — about 1/4 tsp each). Then, coat BOTH SIDES of the lobster with the lemon garlic butter sauce. Then place the lobster in the air fryer. Cook at 380°F for 4 minutes. Then, baste the lobster meat with more garlic butter sauce and cook for an additional 2-4 minutes. The lobster will be white, golden, and tender when done.
- Serve. Serve the lobster with fresh lemon wedges and a side of the reserved lemon garlic butter sauce.
Tips for making lobster tails in the air fryer
- Do Not cut all the way through the bottom of the lobster shell
- Clean and devein the lobster before cooking.
- If using frozen lobster, make sure to thaw them first before cooking.
- Cook time varies depending on the size of the lobster. Generally, 6-8 minutes works for most 4-6oz lobster tails. The meat should be white and tender, and a thermometer inserted into the thickest part should read at least 140°F when done.
- OVEN BROIL OPTION: If you do not have an air fryer, you can make your lobster tail in the oven. Simply preheat the oven to broil. Then, place the lobster on a baking sheet and cook for 5-10 minutes, basting halfway through.
